Hi all, I recently installed Windows Server 2008 onto virtual box successfully and created a domain controller, CONTOSO.COM. I also installed Windows 7 virtually and want to add the Windows 7 machine onto the contoso.com domain. I have both machines on the same subnet as my home network so I can remote desktop into both the server and windows 7 and can ping each machine. But when I try and join the Windows 7 machine onto the contoso.com domain I recieve an error. Ill post my IP settings and the error message and maybe someone can find what mistake I am making! Thanks in advance!! IP Settings (Server 2008) IPv4.....192.168.1.7 Subent Mask......255.255.255.0 Default Gateway........192.168.1.254 DNS.........192.168.1.254 IP Settings (Windows 7) IPv4.....192.168.1.6 Subnet Mask.......255.255.255.0 Default Gateway.....192.168.1.254 DNS.........192.168.1.254 IP Settings (Host Laptop) IPv4.......192.168.1.5 Subnet Mask......255.255.255.0 Default Gateway........192.168.1.254 DNS.......192.168.1.254 Error Message: Thanks in advance!!
Hello I think your DC must have the DNS role install and all client does have the for the dns setting the IP 192.168.1.7 and normally they can be member to your domain contoso.com. Active Directory must have a DNS SERVER
Thanks very much! Changing the DNS address on the client to that of the IP address of my server worked!
