I received a new laptop (Dell) with Windows 7 Home Premium installed (with an OEM key sticker on the computer). Is this key already activated/locked to the laptop motherboard? I ask because I have a retail copy of Windows 7 Professional and would like to use it on this system, and wish to use the Home key on another system. The laptop has not been turned on, can I use this key on another system? or is it pre-locked to the new laptop?

There is actually a practically 100% Legit way you could have pro on both computers. All you have to do, is turn on the laptop, and then go to windows anytime upgrade. Then, enter the appropriate professional key from here forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/10370-Windows-7-OEM-SLP-Key-Collection

This will perform the upgrade correctly, and as far as MS will ever know, legitimately. Then you can use your copy of professional on the other computer. That way, you will have professional on both.

Interesting, looks like I may have to do some more research to understand these options better.
    Thanks
