Who says we need anti-virus software? i mean, really,it's not like a virus can damage our hardware,a virus could corrupt data on the computer including the software drivers that are used to allow your hardware devices to communicate with the computer. If this were to occur it may prevent the device from working but would not physically damage the hardware, and if we do get attacked,a simple re-install will clean our pc's. for the past five months i have run one of my pc's without anti-virus software, IMHO using common sense is the best deterrent to getting any sort of virus
for ultimate protection i think.. some pc users are dont have back ups or sometimes reinstalling is hassle.. but for me i really need one
I don't think a AV is necessary. Formatting is a great cure, ones your files are on a different sector. I recent started to format every 4-6months even when i have an antivirus. I have been using no Anti Virus for 3 years now and not gotten a virus. On both windows XP and windows 7. its not something I would recommend for the non-technical computer user, as it would require some changes in the user computer habits. As a friend on another forum said: The Best AntiVirus is yourself and habits are call defenses instead of definitions.
+1 this , I don't format that often though , but I run AV without realtime protection. Never been infected, just run full memory scan once a week, it takes about 1 minute, and a full online scan once a month.
This is a really good question. Basically you don't need one. But I always install a free one, because it's free. But I never would waste money to buy one. What bad might happen? Banking! I do banking, yes. But the way you do must be absolutely secure, not your AV! I don't trust any AV, so I make sure I use a secure banking system. I have some apps on my PC which are reported to be a virus, but I know they are clean (FPs)... I think it is also a psychological matter. Most think when have installed an AV they are safe....are they? Another reason? Not really. A simple re-install of an clean image would fix it. A good firewall is more important and 'sitting' behind a router... In the past you got malware via e-mail attachments. Nowaydays the e-mail provider scanns them for free already. Anyway if you are visiting 'special' sites (i.e. warez) you should be careful anyway....
For Online Banking i use only a high secure read only OS from a Boot-CD (started from a CD-Reader only) and a 100% clean netbook without HDD, or SSD and any other Software and no Biosmod. haha
I use that: http://forums.mydigitallife.net/thr...p-section-here?p=478379&viewfull=1#post478379 It even would run safe on an infected PC, lol.

R29k but if you have a virus on Bios, or NV-Bios, ATI-Bios, ect. how you will this scanned with a AV-Soft?
Which virus infects Nvidia and ATI Bios if there is one in the BIOS then it is welcome to wipe out everything. I have a backup of the backup.
I think only 1% of all User here check permanently the authentic of this Do you have ever checked this? complete on you PC or mobile We have here Biosmod, why we have no Tool to unpacked Bios and check if the Bios is clean. I don't think that any do this here, but in China we have a lot of People they do this
