As the topic says, do you like the new Metro look Start Menu or do you prefer the old Windows 7 Start Menu?
It takes time to get used to, but after 24 hours I'm starting to feel comfortable with the new start menu; it's rapidly growing on me, and it will only get better once we have more metro apps to launch, without switching to the desktop.
I love it! I needed a change, we can't just stay in the past with the old stuff forever... we need to evolve. Who doesn't like it should stick to Windows 7 (Vista, XP, 2000 or 98) or just disable it!
It's not what I would call good. I feel like I have a giant phone now, I am used to multitasking (as in having multiple windows visible at the same time) this is not possible unless I'm in desktop mode.
If Mircosoft think that the new Metro thingy should be that simple for us, then why are there so many saying the opposite? I was one of the latter.
I think now the metro is fine but better will be hhen we can use both of start menu...metro or classic
It's a DEVELOPER PREVIEW! or should I write it bigger? Microsoft mentioned that they won't include Windows Media Center, Windows DVD Maker and some other stuff They still have to work on those things...
This developer build only seems useful for people with touch screen devices only. However, I think the final version of Windows 8 will have the option to disable metro for desktops. As it is right now though I don't like it at all as I feel as though I'm clicking a lot more to get to where I want to go and to do what I want to do.
As I have mentioned already. It's like they want to improve something but weren't able to....Metro is a huge step backwards regarding workflow, even when using a touch screen, I think. So why creating Metro which is more useful (if at all) when using a touch screen only? Most users don't use w8 with a touch screen and would disable it. Sometimes I can't understand the way M$ is thinking if they do at al.....
Exactly Yen. If things don't change then Windows 8 will be a flop for power users and businesses as we honestly don't need to use both UI's. Like why would a server that normally doesn't even run aero want metro elements on the standard desktop? It makes absolutely no sense. I, personally, would only use metro on a tablet but on my desktop it's more of a gimmick as it'd slow me down a lot.
Is it possible that 8 RTM is going to be WILDLY different from the preview not just about metro but new features? something that'll make one jump from 7? Is it possible with the timeframes say 1 year that everybody expects RTM to debut?
IMHO M$ should focus on what they 'can'. They have to make a good new OS for clients desktops and notebooks and a server OS. They've missed the fastly growing tablet and the phone market. Android peforms a lot better, small apps, a great variety of how to organize the OS and theme'ing. I never would install windows on a tablet. I expect from M$ a new OS for my desktop PC. Which is fast(er) than w7 and reliable. It's just ridiculous how big (in size) windows (8) is and what it can perform compared to other OSes. I am fascinated what a 500K app of android is able to perform and of the size of Android itself. One thing should be clear already. Tablets with w8 on it installed will need a lot of SD space and a fast CPU.
