I want to be able to double click the empty background in a folder and go up one level. Ive gotten used to this feature in QTtabbar and Explorer++, but i want to be able to do this in Windows explorer, so i dont need to use any other application. Is there any registry trick or something? Help much appreciated.

You can in empty folder to go on View->Go To->Up one level. Or Alt + Up arrow.

Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...

I just use the left and right pointing arrows at top left. Or if I want to leapfrog back or forward several locations I click a selection in the address [location?] bar.
