ok quick question which is buggin me now...after upgrading my win 7 to win 8 on the 27th only to find out the Ms one i downloaded was 32bit instead of 64bit...is there a way after DL that i can check if its x86 or x64 before i make the mistake of wasting yet another disk to do fresh install? i know exactly where the files are downloaded to..just need to know if i can check before install etc.. thanks alot guys Edit: The version i first downloaded using the upgrade assistant was the £24.99 windows 8 pro (turned out to be 32bit)....using the same tool inside windows gave me the can not download in your region error..hence why i installed win 7 / vista, but this time i went to my account and got the windows 8 setup.exe and atm 54% downloaded but unsure if this is gonna be 32bit again or its detected my 64bit system and downloaded that.
The version that Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant downloads relies on which OS you're currently using. If you're downloading the upgrade from a 32bit OS, then it will grab the 32bit and vice versa. The only way to go from an x86 to an x64 operating system is to install from a full pro ISO. There aren't any Digitalriver links yet as far as I know, so you'll either have to grab the ISO from a torrent or find someone with a legitimate copy of Windows and make a duplicate for yourself.
thanks for your reply...suspected it too..lastnight i was using 64 bit so im guessing when i downloaded lastnights attempt it should be 64bit...only way to proove this was to install..but didnt want to do that if it ends up being 32 bit....OS is fine atm lol, but you see my point. anyway cheers again
thanks will do no install.wim file but seems its changed to install.esd..assuming thats the one i look inside update: not letting me look inside the file for some reason..first time using 7-zip
