Hello, I'm posting this as a warning to others who may encounter similar issues with Dropbox. I stopped using Dropbox around September 2023, but still have the app installed on my Windows 8.1 system. Recently, on June 29th, 2025, Dropbox automatically updated from version 183.4.7058 to 211.5.341. After the update, I started experiencing system crashes. Specifically, the audio service and explorer.exe would crash after about 1 hour of system uptime. I tried to get help from Dropbox support, but unfortunately, they didn't assist me. However, I found a workaround that resolved the issue. To fix the problem, I: Disabled Dropbox from starting up automatically; Set the services "DbxSvc" and "dbupdate" to Manual (instead of Automatic or Automatic Delayed). If you're experiencing similar issues with Dropbox, try these steps: Go to the Startup settings and disable Dropbox; Open Services (you can search for it in the Start menu) and set: Dropbox Service (DbxSvc) to Manual (instead of Automatic); Dropbox Update (dbupdate) to Manual (instead of Automatic Delayed). I also used CCleaner to disable these two Scheduled Tasks at Startup: DropboxUpdateTaskMachineCore DropboxUpdateTaskMachineUA By doing so, you may be able to prevent the system crashes I experienced. Dropbox support may not be helpful, but I'm sharing my solution in the hopes that it will help someone, who may encounter similar issues. If you're experiencing problems with Dropbox impacting Windows 8.1 stability, feel free to try this workaround. My two cents. Thank you. Just a short addendum. It might have been updated from 211.5.255 to 211.5.341. I can't really tell for sure which version it came from, as the only leftovers I have on my Windows 8.1 partition are from 183.4.7058. My Windows 7 installation on the side has 211.5.255 from May 2025, however I don't usually boot that installation connected to the internet.
