serial number = DMI hp tool for this model board ( brand maker, not hp)

u probably flashed wrong f4 as there is 2.
or the LAN mac address is FF:FF:FF:
and needs to be reprogramed with dmi tool or the LAN chip makers tool.

Hi I have a question related in a slight way to the first question in this thread.

    @LatinMcG

    I have a HP Pavilion dv7-1103ea laptop.

I'm convinced the bios is corrupt and have tried every method I can to re-flash it via usb but it is just not having it.

I have downloaded the latest bios and older versions.

I have run the phoenix tool (2.1.2) on the bios.

This tool produces a fair few files of which there are no sig files or dec files also.

The files it does produce are BIOS0.BIOS and BIOS5.BIOS.

The status is EFI/ Insyde bios and the prompt it gives is - recovery filenames is FC.bin

I have renamed the original bios file from 30FCF49.fd to FC.bin.

Now this is where I am stuck.

The hard drive is empty - no recovery partition or nothing (hence why I can't get the recovery bios from the drive and I have tried recovery software and there is nothing there)

I have a FAT formatted 1gb drive which is empty.

I cannot find a UEFI download for this model from the Hp site.

So I would appreciate greatly some advice on what to do next please.

    Kind regards

    Bleem

Hello and thanks ever so much for the reply.

    It came with Win 7.

I have downloaded the SP you linked to and created the HP_TOOLS volume using sp47481.exe.
I renamed the original .FD file to various names as per your examples.

I followed the instructions on the Hp website and appear to be getting somewhere.

When I say 'getting somewhere' The laptop is displaying all lights and in particular the touchpad light has now changed from white to orange.
The fan is constantly spinning but the flash drive LED is not flickering at all suggesting it isn't reading anything.

On previous attempts befor you replied to my post the laptop touchpad never turned orange - it just stayed white.

Am I on the right track and is this what happenes when trying to recover a bios. (ie. the light goes from white to orange on the touchpad?)

The hp website link you posted suggested that a repair of the boot block may be necessary if the USB drive doesn't work.

    How would one do this?

Am I missing anything else or is there other things I can try?

Many thanks so far for your advice

    Bleem

Is there a way to fix the boot block corruption if this is the case?
    Via software?

    Slight update.

As per my post previously about the orange touchpad lock coming on. If you re-try and update the bios using the usb method again I cannot get the orange touchpad lock to light orange - it stays white.

Yet when I replace the bios files on the usb stick with an older or newer version and try again repeating the method - the orange touchpad lock comes on.

This must suggest that the laptop is seeing the bios file as a new update, so to speak and must be doing something, otherwise the touch pad lock light (orange) wouldn't come on.
