I am trying to transfer my old laptop files with windows 8.1 to a new pc with windows 8.0 and easy share chokes on the laptop (win8.1). I get the first screen, Welcome to Windows Easy Transfer, but then it goes straight to the, "Have you already used Windows Easy Transfer to save your files from your other PC>", but it skips the part if I want to use the network to do this like the other machine does. Does Windows 8.1 have a different easy transfer wizard? Also, the new PC it won't install 8.1 update. I tried using the downloadable standalone package one from MS (KB2919335) to avoid the hundred updates before windows update offers the 8.1 update and it failed. But after doing the windows update path anyway, I still get no windows 8.1 update to install at all. I then try the standalone package after the updates and it still errors. Is there something I need to do before installing 8.1 update? Google wasn't much help as there is two win 8.1 updates and I found nothing helpful. Same with Easy Transfer. They all seem to be from pre-windows 8 to windows 8. Nothing for win8 to win8.
