I have used Aero find and fix problems and am told that DWM is disabled.
Can someone please tell me how I can enable this.

Click the start menu button/icon then in the white space type services.msc and press enter or click it when it finds it and when that new windows opens up look for a service named Desktop Window Manager Session Manager make sure startup type is set to automatic and then click start to get the service going if that is indeed the case here

Followed your instructions and then ran Aero find and fix again and it still says that DWM is disabled

    I take if you have:-

    a) A graphics card able to run aero
    b) The right drivers installed

Check in device manager and see what display adapter its showing!!

    Hope that helps?

I have a compatible graphics card and have had Aero running at times.
Followed your suggestions xcceltech but it is still saying DWM is disabled.

FYI for all you people who get into this. The simplest way to fix a black or solid color desktop which appears instead of the AERO desktop theme you have chosen is to do the following:
    - Select CONTROL PANEL
    - Select EASE OF ACCESS CENTER
    - Select MAKE THE COMPUTER EASIER TO SEE
    - *** UNCHECK *** the box beside "REMOVE BACKGROUND IMAGE (WHERE AVAILABLE)"
Now Aero will be able to start the desktop utility, will be able to enable themes, and will not override your theme choices. It took a lot of digging but cleaned things up so that AERO and THEMES work normally now. Have a great day!!
