Hi all, my ZooStorm 10-270 has a some-what limited BIOS; you can only change the date, time and boot order - rubbish! I know for other manufacturers that use the Insyde H2O BIOS an "advanced menu" can be unlocked by editing the BIOS file. I want to do the same for my ZooStorm but I'm struggling: has anyone done this before? I'm not asking for a BIOS mod as I'd like to do it my self and just hoping for a poke in the right direction.

I've managed to dump my BIOS and my VSS offsets are at 0x351048 but I'm not sure what to change to enable the menu..?

    Thanks :)

With no bios link it's not possible to answer.

Note: most of the time to unlock menus it is necessary to patch the bios itself, you must have a very good knowledge in x86 language, and necessary tools like IDA.

Thanks for the reply TTAV134. I can upload my dumped BIOS file if it helps? Unfortunately my knowledge is limited to C#.

Interestingly this topic: hxxp://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/473226-insyde-hacking-new-vaio-z-advanced-menu-bios.html goes over the process of enabling it for a Vaio Z. I've tried running the Python script for my ZooStorm but I can't find the offsets I need...

the bios is always needed for any diagnostic.

I'm trying to flash it but its saying expected size is 1MB even tho my dumped BIOS is 2MB, confused? Do I need to compress it or anything?

Did you flashed from windows or DOS, do you know how to proceed.
working with a dumped bios can be hazardous, do you have a manufacturer bios package?

I've tried Windows with InsydeFlash and in DOS with Flashini, e.g flashint.exe file.fd /all but they give the same error. The manufacturer doesn't publish any BIOS updates on there website but I've asked them for one - is it a case of extracting their package and replacing the file in there..?

Ok. I've successfully unlocked bios of 5810T and tested it on my 5810T. It worked

Here's how it went through (GUIDE):

    1. Put JM41X64.fd file in a clean FAT-32 formatted USB.
    2. Make sure Laptop is turned off. Now, plug USB in any USB port.
    3. Before booting laptop, PRESS and HOLD ..... FN+ESC keys
    4. Now, Press and Release POWER button to turn the system ON (Do NOT hold power button)
    5. Keep holding FN+ESC keys until you see USB activity (LED light flashing on USB)
    6. Let go of all keys and wait for the modded BIOS to be loaded (Screen may be black, but don't worry :shy: )

Now, Virtualization Technology option will be in found in :

    MAIN -> Intel -> Advanced -> Advanced CPU Control -> Chipset Configuration -> VT-d

Will do digging on SLIC 2.1 tomorrow
Date of Modded BIOS : 21/01/2013
