Well that's the users fault, they choose to keep using an old and outdated OS for whatever reason they choose. Its not in Microsoft interest to keep an OS that will be over 14 years old supported. MS should have let it die after their the 1st cut off line, instead of caving in, when vista was panned when people tried and industry tried to run it on old hardware. If you want DX 10 or 11 or any other features or support you will need to upgrade or pay for the support, but which most people will not be able to afford. Lazy manufactures have a lot to answer for only supporting XP and or 32 bit OS, and worse still is only been able to use RS232 ports which most modern boards don't always have. And then you have the other end where people refuse to update nad continue to use the OS until their PC dies, and still want to buy XP even when you inform them it has not been available for some years now from MS, they storm out and run around town to every shop trying to find a new pc with xp or a copy. when they come back gloating they have bought a key its nearly always pirated copy with a key written on a piece of paper with a burnt cd all because they have heard people say bad things about vista and 7 and now 8 is coping it when people want to run 10 year old versions of myob or quick books etc etc. You don't see car manufactures supporting a 14 year old car, so why should any other maker do the same
I completely agree. Windows Xp does everything that I need to do. I have tried dual boot Windows Xp with windows 7 and then windows 8 but think there is no need to upgrade my old hardware just to use new OS. Windows Xp is my main OS at present and removed windows 8.
if you had any brain in that head of yours, you'd realize not everyone can buy new hardware every 2.5 years or even worse in your case, new car as you put it why the hell should one even do so ? waste money instead using something that works just fine you're talking like you won't get viruses on any newer NT's... just use freaking firewall and antivirus and stay out of non-secure pages (warez, porn), and as always avoid weird e-mails the only "virus" one has to be worried is the one that trashes BIOS, and yet I never encountered such in 15 years only heard of few cases
Definitely yes. I see no sense in extra strain for PC on things I just don't need to, and not gonna follow the crowd obsessed with new loudass-named version of something - either it's OS or a car.
Have Win XP on older 32-bit machine in order to run several Win 98 apps. An upgrade to Win 7 or 8 would entail a clean install. It would be difficult or impossible to to install the old apps under the new OS. Better to not fix something that ain't broke. In addition, assuming that I would want a new, licensed, install of Win 7 on my old Win XP machine, the cost of buying a new machine with Win 7 already installed (either tower or laptop) is only marginally higher. I can purchase a name brand machine with Win 7 or Win 8 for less than $300. One might pay as much as $150 for a new copy of Win 7 on Ebay. Corporate IT buyers are looking at the same issue, only on a grander scale. Trust me on this. I have been there, got the T-shirt. The economic trade offs have caused many users to hold off on upgrading or replacing their XP machines. When appropriate, they will buy new machines to support new applications. For the last couple of years purchases of new technology have been slowing perhaps as a result of this line of thinking. Recently, CNBC reported that PC sales were down dramatically over the last year. Some of the slow down might be attributed to a dislike of Win 8 and it's missing start button.
Don't forget about the Start Menu too, some people are not willing to accept change, so they are sticking with what they are comfortable with, be it XP or 7. It's turning out (at the moment), that Win8 will be a bigger failure than Vista was.
at home, i have this lovely desktop, on w7 64 bit. purring like a cat every time i use it. but i also have an antique laptop, on xp, just for chat. works.. at several workplaces, everything is still xp.. companies not only see no reason to upgrade, for so many machines, but some of the specialized software that they require and bought expensive licences for, still has some issues even with w7, let alone w8. so they just do not bother, cannot find it in my heart to blame them. it costs, and it creates issues. and everything works as it is... just my 2 centavos.
I am used to work on this OS as well as many people in the world. I'll probably have some troubles when Microsoft will stop supporting it because I hate such serious changes like installing and using new OC.
Windows 7 is about as a desktop os gets i would think, but xp is not that far behind it. Still use both, not sure ms not supporting it next year will change my mind on xp, we will just have to wait and see.
I will. I have already set up Windows XP virtual machines running under VMware Workstation, and I will continue using them for some old programs (e.g. Dreamweaver MX and WordPerfect 2000) which still works well for me and which will not run correctly under Windows 7. Actually I have quite a number of various Windows virtual machines (including the old Windows 98 for running some really old games which I still play from time to time) under VMware Workstation and so I won't care if any of them drops out of support. I will continue to use them if they are useful to me.
Win8 = Sucks!! Win7 = Not bad!! XP is my weapon of choice. It will be with me for some time, support or no support!! I have all the updates, to date, installed in my format disk and will keep doing that till M$ stops support. Then I will be on my own and still use it.
I really don't get it, why people should dish XP after the end of support, if you think about it, if you don't update XP for a year, you will not get any major or if any problem at all, in what concerns security flaws, just install a good Internet Security and you are done with it, after SP3, XP has become to most reliable Operating System out there, I have worked with Win 7, and is not worth it, it just a newer kernel with lots of bloatware, that does the same as XP, but with lots of useless add ons, but most people things uau, if is newer is obviously better
All our Pc's have now been upgraded. Don't like win 8 hence only one pc with win 8. All others now have win 7. XP was a very good os for us but just to worried about security after support ends.
