Its not my computer, it is my mother in law's. She is 85 and her ram is not big enough. The ram on her computer is not either...
windows 8 1 update 1 media center can you make it to look-a-like candy eye? and with the same behaviour for windows explorer?
Not a chance! Windows 8 is so ugly, I am not touching it I rather try again to add Media Center in XP. Give me couple of weeks and I'll look into that. I haven't touch it since 2010.
i know windows 8.1 media center is ugly, but that's why i wanted that you take care of it. let's face it:xp is dying,so do something with 8.1 to remember xp as we know it
since you said you won't make another iso, i('ve) learned to use nlite and udc and i('ve)tried to make one myself.but no luck : i('ve)had problems with symc810,symc8xx,viaide.then i('ve) replaced them,i made the iso but i('ve) had another problem :media center log and some network adapter.shall i wait for your work or i have to try myself again?
windows xp systems can stay secure for months more atleast, you just have to be really paranoid about updating antivirus, scanning and avoiding sites you think might be infected. switching to a lower user rather than the admin user almost everyone is guilty of using would also help. i am an xp fan but my machine that ran it is too old a piece of hardware to bother with using these days.
Yes, I will use xp at least 2 more years for my usual every day tasks. All equipments attached to my PC like scanner, tvcard, modem, etc. work fine. My 10 years old scsi HD for xp system is still healthy, which I replaced ata HDs for so many times. Hmmm, I dont know if xp updates are necessary, I've never done update(s). Just sleepstream sp2/3, remove IE (replace with alternative browser(s)) and remove all unnecessary files using nlite, the rest install firewall, etc. as you like. done! I'm trying to replace xp with other OS(s), but not yet found the right one. The closest one maybe linux so far. I dont want to invest anything yet: UEFI is just the beginning of evil right now, in the future could be more worst something like one PC with one id and only one OS will work and the form factor (PC design, layout and so on) will change soon. I voted YES but not working
Time, money or what? You do realize no matter what you do it's going to take some investment in time to get any new OS installed, tweaked and running to suit you. But then, that sort of thing is what we do. If you mean an investment in money, well ... you can get Windows 7 via a link provided by this forum and activate it using a method provided by this forum. The monetary cost there is pretty minimal ... zero in fact. Many of us Windows 7 users think it a worthy replacement for XP. As to refusing to do all updates, life on the edge can be exciting under the right circumstances.
yeah, uefi.. i have my worries there too... the whole hardware could just pass out of our control.. not good.. as for updates, i have my doubts about the wisdom of skipping them...
