we have following problem. we did 3 time a sysprep generalize and now the sysprep don´t work anymore.
is there a way to reset the counter for sysprep. we are using windows 8.1 update 1.

we already tried following, without any result. we are not able to do a sysprep.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\Status\SysprepStatus\GeneralizationState\
    CleanupState:2
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\Status\SysprepStatus\GeneralizationState\

    GeneralizationState:7

    msdtc -uninstall
    msdtc -install

Afaik they introduced 1000 rearms to Win 8/8.x for the reason to prevent from running out :g:.

    This is what i found

Windows 8 has a maximum number of 3 rearms before the image can no longer be sysprepped

Lifted from MS... Sysprep must be used only to configure new installations of Windows. You can run Sysprep as many times as required to build and to configure your installation of Windows. However, you can reset Windows activation only up to three times. You must not use Sysprep to reconfigure an existing installation of Windows that has already been deployed. Use Sysprep only to configure new installations of Windows.

You can bypass the 3 counts in win7 if you used SkipRearm entry in unattend file when you run sysprep

i don't have a clue about checking the count
maybe it has someting to do with the reg key mentioned in the OP

Why wouldn't you be in Audit mode?? Are you using Generalize each time you sysprep?
