had no problems with internet speeds, but if your using p2p, ive noticed the firewall on this smart security 4 can be an issue, i have to diasble the eset firewall and use the windows one when running p2p apps
just mostly emule kademlia is the only one i have an issue with, utorrent and others seem to be ok

low speeds like that can be noticed during peek hours in some built up areas
especially if youve been downloading all day and being traffic shaped

Been running it for a month on win7 with no issues. In device manager -> show hidden devices -> non pnp drivers -> epfwwfpr is the related driver. You can try removing it.

You don't need useless, overcomplicated 3rd party Windows-based firewalls.

Use NOD32 AV, NOT smart security. It has too verbose of a firewall. Any 3rd party windows firewall isn't worth it. Why you ask?

    1. Windows has a built-in firewall that's come a LONG way since XP, and to be honest, it was perfect with XP in the first place. The thing blocks everything except what you allow. It's that simple. MS did something right -- utilize it.

    2. 99.9% of anyone out there is behind a router. There's no reason for a firewall on a PC behind NAT. It only causes problems.

    The end.

my forefront TMG isn't behind a router... it is my router and VPN. It is only the edge though I have another internal network routed to that. As far as a firewall it is a yes and no thing if I take my laptop off my network it is exposed to both inbound and outbound public connections, which the basic windows firewall doesn't protect. Any enterprise uses a good Endpoint protection program and those all include their own firewall programs. Not saying Windows Firewall is bad but it isn't the best on the market.

I do admit windows firewall has come along nicely since Xp. Am i saying it's a killer firewall? No. It still could use more improvement but then again anyone in the security software business is constantly updating there code so i would think M$ is as well.

What app are you using to download? Is it a P2P app? If so, then try this:

    • Open ESS4 and hit F5
    • Go to "Antivirus and Antispyware" / "Web Access Protection" / "HTTP, HTTPS" / "Active Mode"
    • If you see the app you are using in the list and the checkbox is checked, then uncheck it and try again.

The internet speed reduction may be caused by something else , seeing as it doesnt make a difference when you switch the antivirus off

Im running MSDN Windows 7 Ultimate with Eset Smart Security 4 and my downloads are the same speed they usually are!

Operating system shouldnt really affect downloading speed - generally internet connection that does that :p

if you have a genuine license for eset then why not call them saves you time and resources:)

if youre the type who use 3rd party programs to update nod , uninstall eset security if thats the version youre using and just install the eset nod32 antivirus then just install comodo firewall (choose firewall enterprise mode, disable anvirus).

note: the firewall in eset security has issues when your upgrading vista to win7, also eset's firewall is not the best out there. try also disable web protection in the advanced settings.:)
