If you mean the Windows Defender Security Center, I will not see any changes in this regard. Everything is exactly as it was. The only change is that the Taskbar icon's start now is different than before. Now is there new small app for it (SecurityHealthSystray.exe) in %windir% folder, previosly was used MSASCuiL.exe in %ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender.
Only, if You're looking for Drive in extensions submenu, then it isn't really there (have never been), You must select Folder.
Open Windows Defender Security Center => Virus & threat protection => Virus & threat protection settings and click on Manage settings => Exclusions click on Add or remove exclusions

This might not be what you want to hear, but it's a bad idea to exclude an entire drive - about as bad as sharing the root of a drive. You can make a single folder in the drive and put everything else in it.

    hmm
there has to be a way of doin this w/o powers-hell & bashing the regkeys directly
gotta be a dll or sumthing that comspec or vbscript can hit

Microsoft recommends the powershell cmdlets to manage Defender.
There should be a corespondent wmi interface, but probably slower / limited, and since scripting can be crippled on many PCs, powershell is advised.
Feel free to come up with something better, tough.

Still works fine here in 18252.1000 which is 1809, I exclude several small drives devoted to (cough) sketchy software.
