I tried using a modified explorer.exe from a new theme I'm trying out but can't get my original explorer.exe backed up. Don't have privileges due to trusted installer not allowing me to do anything. Googled and all I can come up with are Vista threads that haven't helped me much. Anyone know how I can fix this?
I failed to mention that I do have the context menu option to "Take Ownership" but it fails to show up when I right-click on the explorer.exe... Any other way of taking ownership?
Hmmm, could've sworn that I never had to use UXstyles before ... I've backed it up before without having to use anything other than "Take Ownership". Oh well I'll check it out. Thanks guys
open notepad copy the code then save as backup.cmd then right click and run as administrator Code: takeown.exe /f %WINDIR%\explorer.exe icacls.exe %WINDIR%\explorer.exe /grant administrator:f copy %WINDIR%\explorer.exe %WINDIR%\explorer.exe.bak
Explorer is always running so this creates a backup, right? But how does this help install a modified explorer.exe?
Paymyrent, didn't work for me Thanks Genuine555, that worked. Somehow Trustedinstaller wouldn't get his/her hands off my explorer.exe without your help Rosco you can rename explorer.exe... I just did
lol yeah it did... In my frustration I forgot to run as admin. I was so used to getting denied by Trustedinstaller I guess I started to think like a user Works fine thanks alot bud.
Took a look at your little patch. That's a neat little fix. Simple and effective. Gonna save that one myself. Is it ok for you if I should use it in future threads ? Off course I'll make the reference to you...
