explorer will not load

    got a laptop i am trying to fix but when i turn it on and try to log in it goes to a black screen explorer is not running, i cannot even get taskmanager to load,

    how ever in safemode with command prompt i can start explorer and it work fine

    i have alredy checked regedit to make sure explorer.exe is the only program in the shell key

    any help on how to fix it?

    windows 7 sp1 home premium x64

    Hi Urie i have tried the sfc /scannow but when ever i do the laptop just dies :/ i dont want to try a repair install just incase it does the same and destroys the system :/

    In that case you should back up the system first always a good idea anyway :rolleyes:

    Edit: is this pre-installed i,e, branded machine does it have recovery partition or the option to make recover disks.

    it was preinstalled but i think there has been a fresh install of windows, there is however still the recovery partition

    Yeah probably your safest bet :rolleyes: saves you the hassle they can make the decision.
