I ve been wondering about this for quite a while and hope someone here has at least an explanation ... Under options > account settings you would normally get the option of changing the FB user name i.e. Code: http://www.facebook.com/MyUserName I had several FB accounts over the years for different reasons. I can no longer change my user name in any of the new FB accounts that I ve created. I always get the 'verify by phone option' - which I have no intention of handing over my cell number to FB. It also says "..If not, please try to register your username at a later time". At first I though, OK, they must have changed their policies (again) so they can have our phone numbers as well. But this is not the case - as I logged in on one of the other FB accounts that I hold .. and there I can change my user name directly, no phone verification needed. I have an older FB account which I can't change it and newer accounts that still can't change the user name. So what makes that particular account 'tick'? Is it something regional? Or has it anything to do with other settings? Has anybody else observed that behaviour on their FB account(s)? Any way that I can bypass the phone verification step? Is it just system random where you are given the option to change the user name without the phone verification? Or is there like an 'open day' like the one we used to get for Demonoid registration In that particular FB account where I can still change it, it says I m only allowed once. In all other accounts I ve never changed it in the past.
I think this a change effective for new accounts registered after a certain dates but not affective to old accounts do some policy/legal reasons.
The account in which I can change the user name is not the 'older' one that I have. Got couple more older FB accounts in which I cannot change the user name. So there must be more to it than just age
