A Dutch girl wanted to celebrate with her friends her own 16th birthday. At the moment she created the event did she forgot to make it private resulting in hundreds of people seeing this. It quickly grew and the girl noticed this and closed the event. Sadly did someone re-created it and called it "Project X Haren". During the whole week did 33000 people said they would attend it. The police and town Haren said many times that there is no event and nobody should come.

This night was the date of the event which is still going on while I'm writing this. Many people came and it started peacefully. The police blocked parts of the city including the home of the girl who fled away for the night to be safe and free from press. A soccer field was made free and open for people to go so the city leaves untouched and the citizens could spend the night in peace.

However did most people stay in front of the blockade of the police and the mood took a turn in the group. People started making small fires and some went throwing stones/bottles to the police. This moment did the Mobile Unit (A group who are trained to handle riots from advancing and eventually stop it) to push the people back. This was the start of a long night between the party people and police. It resulted in many windows destroyed, street lanterns being broken down to the ground, cars being destroyed and many more destruction.

There are reports of 2 people being killed in the crowd but this is not confirmed. It is sure that some people are injured. The police also arrested people during the cleaning and they will slowly go clean the whole city. More arrest will probably follow in the coming days as the police already asked for pictures on Twitter.

Below is a video which shows partly of the happening this night.

So if you ever make an event on Facebook, then be sure to do this..

Why would anyone sane enough use facebook to invite his/her friends to a party? No more phones in The Netherlands I suppose...:weep: Facebook people took the phones away...:p

Why would these people attend the birthday party if they were not even invited?

It becomes a trend that more and more people use Facebook to invite people. Maybe it's easier than traditional way.

It's only fair to mention that not all blame is on Facebook. IMHO the media are the ones who fueled this at first small fire. They sent reporters to Haren and covered it live a long time before anything had gone sour. It suddenly got to be a hot topic on Twitter and Facebook only after the media got involved.

Anyhow, this shouldn't have happened at all of course :negative:

Exactly, if the media didn't covered this up then only a number of less then 1000 people would know about it, and not the 30000 as it ended on at the day it happened.

The most annoying part of this whole story is that people directly started creating new events for other city. Some were serious to make it a real party and not just a gathering but the use of the name "Project X" was ridiculous. That name is now a curse in Netherland. One news site (Nu.nl) had early this week an article about a party on a company's terrain where the police came in action after complains of the owner. The site said that it didn't went out of the hand because it wasn't a "Project X" part. :p
