Hi all, We know that there are lots of things which is need in Windows, but are things which is missed. People please write ideas and I am asking windows 8 testers to provide them to Microsoft! Some of my ideas: 1. Older application compatibility with Windows 8! (Windows 95, 98, NT...) 2. Older Windows driver support in Windows 8! (There are lots of radio cards, other cards PCI which can be used today.) 3. Memory usage normally when no applications opened not more than 128Mb-230Mb at least like in LINUX. Windows Vista, 7 memory usage is not good, but LINUX in memory usage is best! Memory usage must be like in LINUX. Running the same applications in Windows Vista, 7 memory usage is bigger, but in LINUX running the same applications are more lower! More ideas please.
Move the shutdown button options to the tile! make the tile more useful! and for god's sake get rd of that grey bar on top of the tile!
Some of my ideas: (1) A Driver Manager application. (2) A virtualization mode with performance comparable to VirtualBox. It should allow Aero and use Direct X, 3D rendering etc etc. Microsoft must provide VHDs for older versions of Windows(3.1, 95/98/2000, XP, Vista/7) as additional downloads. (3) Bring back a default mail client - Windows Mail or whatever MS would choose to call it, and provide a default photo editor. (4) More personalisation content over the web... screensavers, themes, wallpapers... (5) Skydrive desktop client. (6) New default games and gadgets. (7) Include all the codecs which 3rd party vendors like K-Lite provide as default in Windows Media Player. (8) A social networking application... Maybe AppX or HTML5 built.
4. File system safe from fragmentation. Strong like ZFS, EXT4. 5. Safe Remove must work for any USB connected device. There must be fixed glitch when safe remove is impossible due device is currently in use. 6. No need Paint, Notepad, Wordpad because there are alternative free products with better feature support (Notepad++, Paint.NET, AbiWord...). Notepad don't support UNIX typing files!! 7. Must not become slower after long period use. 8. Must work on 16Mb, 32Mb, 64Mb video cards. 9. Less need to restart computer after driver and other stuff installations. 10. Live possibility to test Windows without installation. 11. Hardware must be supported fully like in Linux. Windows 7 don't support all available hardware!!!!! As I say recently there are hardware which can still be usable. 12. No need XP Mode!!!!! 13. Better Keyboard Layout like in GNOME. 14. Hotfix's, problem updates must be available for installations under Updates like in Linux distributions. 15. Windows Update must be customizable to choose which updates I need to install. (Security, Recommended, Hotfix's...) 16. Classic Start Menu must be back. 17. Games must be supported on low end video cards. 18. Windows Defender must be removed. 19. One version of Windows for desktop. 20. Quick Erase, Full Erase functions for erasable disc media. (CD-RW, DVD-RW...) 21. One tool for monitoring. (Performance, Memory Usage...)
22. In Windows 8 must be supported 3Tb and more bigger disks without limitations and not only on old BIOS and on new UEFI BIOS technology. Windows 8 disk size support must be unlimited. Linux now already support hard disks bigger than 3Tb on old and new BIOS technologies. 23. Windows 8 no need Windows 7 Mode. Backward compability must be 100%!!!! Big mistake if Microsoft will release Windows 7 Mode!!!!! More ideas please. If we will provide more ideas Windows 8 will be better!!!!
Visual Studio hasn't got a "please type everything you want and I will write the code and optimize it for you" textbox. Sorry.
6. Why do you want those tools removed? 7. My computer runs fine even after long use. 8. Maybe. Isn't Windows Aero gaining the ability to run on the CPU in Windows 8? 10. Already exists with Vlab pro center (cannot post link but it's easy to find). 11. ? I have no idea what you're talking abou there. 12. This has to be included in order to reduce legacy support. 15. Windows Update is fine. 16. No. 18. No.
5) I just remove the device if I know I am not writing anything to it. Never had a problem. 6) No, why would you remove them? With that logic why have the default photoviewer? Why have Windows Media Player when there's VLC and foobar2000. Why even use Windows?! 7) I had the same installation of Windows 7 since 2008 and it has never slowed down. 8) Why? Video cards are cheap, really cheap. If you have a machine that old, use Linux. 9) Valid, to a point. It's just how Windows is. 10) Will never happen, they have stated that they will never allow Windows to be portable. 11) Valid, to a point. I would never expect a 10 year old peice of hardware to work flawlessly with newer versions of Windows, especially when we are 64bit. 12) Why not? Businesses use it. It's not even on there by default, you have to install it yourself. So it's not bugging you. 13) Huh? 14 and 15) Why would you only want to fix parts? It's like only fixing part of your car when you know it's free. 16) No. 17) That is not explicitly Microsoft's problem, talk to the game developers. I am with AMD's thought about getting rid of DirectX and giving access to low-level programming. 18) No. Never. 19) Will never happen, why would you want to pay for features you will never use? Also, it would mean netbooks and other computers will become more expensive as they cannot handout licenses for very cheap. 20) I do not think you know how CD/DVD's work. It's not exactly like a HDD. 21) The program would be too bulky. If your computer is already bogging down/messing up. Why would you want a program that does way too much to load? It's fine how it is. If you don't like it, go ahead and download a Task Manager replacement like Process Hacker. 23) Are you confusing Windows 7 Mode with Windows 7 Compatibility?
24) Explorer to be dual-pane, as in Directory Opus. I like the Ribbon UI and would use Windows Explorer even more if it had two panes.
Tabs for Explorer, dual-pane support (not by default) HideBlur DWM setting not being removed from Final version, but also changed into .theme instead of Registry Native FLAC decoding and thumbnail support More customizeable functions in .msstyle (away from DLL's again), Official Theme Editor and the ability to publish them on Windows Store, where microsoft digital signes these themes so you do not need a patched DLL GIF (Animations)/SVG (inclusive Animation) support for Windows Photo Viewer (maybe discard the actual Render engine and use IE Engine, easier to support new file formats) No locked functions that write to registry, but the registry entrys have no functions at all of these, changing them has no effect IE10 with better addon support (no stupid installers, and better support for the addon to draw icon and other stuff where they want not forced to use the stupid Addon bar) IMPROVE COMMAND LINE FEATURES Native SkyDrive integration inclusive a ability to sync any folder you want. For example you use the Snipping tool, and because you have linked a windows live account you are now able to instantly share the snipped picture with SkyDrive and get a link copied.. Make Windows Store not suck, proper support, Automatic Update mechanic thanks to Windows Update for apps provided on Windows Store. Give Notepad proper decoding. Provide Windows 8 with only 3 Versions (Home, Pro, Enterprise) (Pro = Enterprise) (Home is like W7Pro, and Pro/E like Ultimate/E but more better features worth this edition) More REAL Updates and improvements of the UI over the time, not 2years later with W9.. Include all Sysinternals tools with install and a function to add it to Windows Update
I agree with most of these except of the Sysinternals suite. If you need it or use any portion of it, you can easily take 5 minutes to download it. You don't want to confuse people by including it. People will install it, use it, then break their systems. Lastly, the versions of Windows will not change. What about Starter? It's limited in functionality for a reason, it makes netbooks extremely cheap while still having a great operating system. Don't like Notepad's decoding? Use Wordpad. Both have always been included by default. Edit: You keep asking for SkyDrive support, what are you talking about? You know you can map your SkyDrive account as a network drive, right? i.imgur.com/lhCQu.png
Primedeath this SkyDrive mapping is <FAR> from the same, this is really useless actually. Try it out then you know why it doesnt compare to for example Dropbox or Wuala I think you don't get the idea of good native support ^^ And with Sysinternals including i don't mean showing these tools in your startmenu, but having them in your windows folder, so you don't have to download them first This is not confusing any consumer.. really.. The problem with Notepad is that alot of textfiles don't decoded properly so you get a endless wall of text instead of a good formatted text like its actually supposed to show.
Who says you have to use Notepad? If it doesn't appear properly in Notepad, open it in Wordpad. I don't know what functionality is different. I can drag and drop my files there easymode. Works enough for me. ^_^
I wonder how you will provide them to Microsoft while they did not launch beta yet? And most of the features listed here might be already included in the beta. Are you working for MS?
Windows4live any comments about my ideas? Is there any possibility to allow to use under Windows 8 XDDM drivers and old drivers for old PCI cards which have NT, 2000 drivers?
