I installed windows vista and the updates work perfect. my laptop designed for windows XP. Windows XP is too old and have old GUI. Windows 7 is newer but maybe because it takes a lot of resources the updates stuck. Windows vista has the windows 7 GUI with little resources like in XP.
win 7 is less of a resource hog than vista. even with sp2, vista has some serious security and stability issues. win updates failure has nothing to do with resources.
At least, the updates work on my old laptop. In windows 7 I got error. The display adapter driver was not compatible with windows 7. only with XP and it works in vista.
She means drivers are auto installing with updates. Vista and 7 use most of times similar driver. She dunno how to find them?
When I installed windows 7 I had to find driver for display adapter. with vista and XP I hadn't. (In windows 7 I can install similar driver and install it in safe mode). As I said before, my old laptop designed for windows XP.
