    Hello Guys,

Hope your enjoying Windows 7 as much as I am. I was thinking last night "Do I need an AntiVirus?". So I woke up this morning and ran two vms with same specs and no programs installed but one with AVG Internet Security and one without. I recorded times such as startup, loadup times for notepad and calculator and finally how many Internet explorers could I open before a crash.

The non-AV VM surprised me by leading all the way through the tests. So my question is. Do we really need an AntiVirus or are we careful enough for ourselves?

This question is intended for IT Experts, Technical Experts and anyone who understands computing in a very expert way.

It would be naive not to use one. Even though you might be so careful. Maybe that nice website your friend's telling you about might contain some form of malware, you never know for sure ;-)

My opinion is that, if you like visiting sites like this one, you should defenitely use an antivirus. By "sites like this" I mean sites with tons of cracks and loaders to download hehe.

If you don't cary about the contents in your HDD and are happy with formating everytime, you don't need one.

    Symantec Endpoint Protection Corporate 11
    COMODO Firewall(avoid the antivirus)
    NOD32 4.0 + a very simple registry crack

And voila permanently activated security software! And yes they DO run together fine, no conflicts. Just add C:\ProgramData\Symantec\SRTSP\Quarantine to NOD32's exclusion list. NOD doesn't like Symantec's quarantine.

Comodo+Nod32 should be enough. You are wasting resources.

In my case, I use Eset Smart Security. I like to have everything (firewall+antivirus) integrated in one program.

I use Nod32 SS. Also have used Kaspersky Internet Security. Both run really well on win7.Also use Malwarebytes as a on demand scanner.

Don't make this a "I use this suite blabla" topic, rather stay on topic: Do we really need an AntiVirus or are we careful enough for ourselves?

Too right, sites other than mainstream are all a possible danger. Not talking about this site, but i would not feel as safe without them, whether they truly are 100% effective, they are better than just us, picking for ourselves, as people are very devious,a s we all know to our costs.

Eset nod 32 4.x x64 and Eset Smart Security Bussiness x64 on WS2008 R2, no crack, just find a key on website nod123.cn when keys expire

Thanks guys, I value these comments. Of course I need protection but I haven't tried all avaliable AV's. Which is the least CPU/RAM gobbling and just does its job.

Sandboxie and fsecure or Kaspersky (multiengined av products preferably)...as long as sandboxie is working correctly, you have the best protection available for 32 bit windows web browser based exploits and malware....imho.

Nod is not greedy, especially if you do not activate the anti-malware, which overlaps with windows defender and firewall as that of windows except for WS 2008 R2 where i use Eset Smart Security .
