This kind of crap is why I always prefer to do a clean install rather than upgrade. If nothing else it forces me to back up my files.
Look on the bright side. At least you don't have to worry about hackers stealing your personal files.
they don't have quality control anymore. Windows 10 overall feels like a product by people that have no passion for their work and don't actually use it. They probably go home and use their Macs or something. I'm just used to clean installing major updates so I don't get these problems but that's not a reasonable thing for most people to do every time. Nobody should do that in 2018. It's just my gaming system so it's easy for me to wipe the system. I'm done trying doing actual work with Windows 10.
I updated to LTSC 2019 before this bug was even being reported on, seems as if OneDrive being stripped out completely prevented this bug from rearing its head.
Absolutely. I prefer to backup my stuff and restore what's needed (lots of apps have user config files) and reinstall my apps. If something goes terribly wrong, restore backup in its entirety. this way I choose who deletes what, when, and I'm prepared.
...so dont ppl take backups anymore? oh... right... Backups, who need them.... Microsoft do sync all that in the cloud so we dont need to.... eh... Seriously, it should be the first thing anyone does when upgrading the os... any os... and at other times to..... "had 223Gigs of documents from xx years and now the upgrade whiped then..." s**t for brains . Diskspace is cheap today and there are plenty of backup software.... even just making a copy of the stuff manual way... but nope... Rant mode Disabled... i think
I do think that if you're going to perform an upgrade to a freshly released version of Windows 10, especially one not actively being propagated through Windows Update, you should take steps to backup important data, as data loss can happen anytime. Those who upgraded knew the risk and accepted it, unfortunately some lost data and many didn't have a backup. RIP
I beg your pardon. People clicking "Check for updates" do NOT expect having 0day OS release crammed down their throats without asking and with no way to avoid it. Not in a sane world, anyway. W10 world is anything but sane, and the level of insanity keeps growing. MS needs to get sued till they stop this stupidity. Imagine you just unpacked a new computer, boot it, and - guess what you normally do. Yeah, check for updates to install security bugfixes. Bummer, MS decided to force a new version on you instead. Because they know better.
Apparently you didn't read my post. This update has NOT been released through Windows Update. Users obtained it through the media creation tool, or other sources.
