I've successfully updated the Intel RST OROM and the Realtek PXE ROM using APTIO MMTool, but am having difficulty flashing. I have a ASUS P8ZZ7-V LK and it has no BIOS Flashback button. Both ASUS EZ Flash 2 and the BUpdater DOS application will not flash, complaining of a security verification failure. The motherboard manual is very vague in the BIOS recovery procedure. I tried renaming it to the proper .CAP filename and placing it on a USB flash drive formatted with FAT32 and rebooting, but nothing happened.

Is there any way to flash a modified BIOS on this board?

having the same issue. you need to do the older perm dmi mod, and then flash the bios. you can also just ask for someone to mod you a file that passes the security ver.

I use the Asus P8Z77-V LX motherboard, same family, and this kind of motherboards are very easy for modding because the original bios is

already equipped with the Slic 2.0 bin.

I modded using the 2.11 version of the Andy tool:
    http://forums.mydigitallife.net/thr...eplace-SLIC-in-Phoenix-Insyde-Dell-EFI-BIOSes.

Modded the last 1404 bios for the P8Z77-V LX using the above tool, using only manufacturer: Asus and SLIC File: Asus.bin Dynamic method.

The first - flashed with the bios EZ flash tool using the original 1404 bios file, after reboot flashed using the bios modded file.

You can check all using the Slic Toolkit v.3.2

    Handle with care!

I use to buy a spare bios chip with included bios for my modding (the bios chip is socket mounted), with about 10 € I am sure.

How do you activate Win 7? Slic Toolkit errors with no SLP found, running slmgr -dli in Windows reports unactivated, still in initial grace period.

I am not interested in SLIC 2.1 because I'm on Windows 8. I am interested in flashing a modified BIOS with updated option ROMs, does anybody know how to modify the BIOS and allow it to be flashed using a DOS tool or the BIOS's own flash utility?

with flashrom.exe from http://flashrom.org/Downloads#Binary_packages and this commands in dos
and make sure CWSDPMI.EXE is in the same folder as flashrom.exe.

    make a backup first
    backup.bat contents:
    flashrom -p internal:laptop=this_is_not_a_laptop -r backup.rom

    flash mod
    flash.bat contents:
    flashrom -p internal:laptop=this_is_not_a_laptop -w mod.rom

success with P8Z77-V LX bios 1404

ive also heard the first 1000h in bios update is header.. without it u can flash mod.. but flashrom is easier.

Will that procedure work with a .CAP file instead of .ROM?
