I forgot my administrator account password for my daughter and I don't know what to do. Apparently by going into safe mode I can reset my password but will this reboot the whole computer and erase everything? Please help... Thank you!

Boot system from the windows 7 or 8 installation disk / pen drive.
At installation windows press shift + F10 to get command prompt.
go to your system drive \windows\system32 folder
copy sethc.exe file to another drive so that you can retrieve it letter.
now delete sethc.exe from system32 folder
    rename cmd.exe as sethc.exe
    restart the system
at logon screen press shift 5 times
    command window must open.
    now type
    net user administrator /active:yes
to activate administrator account if it is not activated.
Suppose you want your new password as 1234 then
    type
    net user administrator 1234
you must receive message that command executed successfully.
Again reboot the system from windows 7 or 8 dvd pen drive
at installation screen press shift + F10
    rename sethc.exe to cmd.exe
copy retained sethc.exe to windows\system32 folder
    restart
logon in administrator account with 1234 or your desired password.

chtnpw works wonders. I would post a link but I can't yet (do a google search). Burn it to a cd and follow the instructions on screen. It's console based, but it's very easy to figure out.

It works on any Windows installation, from XP all the way to 7. I assume it works well with 8 as well, but I haven't tried it myself yet.

Hi, if you don't want to lose any thing in the computer. You'd better to resort to a third-party tool. I know a good one-Windows Password Key. You can use it to create a Windows 8 password reset USB to remove the lost password.

Many answers - and yet some of them will not work if his Comptuter is UEFI & GPT. since he never said, I have to recommend
a 2gb USB bootable with "Gandalf's_Win8.1uPE (x86 or x64)" and it does work on UEFI & GPT - then open netplwiz as admin and change the password.
I would also recommend you make a backup so you can restore and your Daughter will not know you hacked her Computer.
    :)
