For the last few days I noticed that the :"Fn" key of my laptop is not working. Usually it helps me switch between Networks, Sleep, Mute, Touch pad lock and Volume/Brightness control etc. Does anybody has or noticed this problems?
This is very rare because Fn is not a Windows feature but a BIOS feature, but it can still happen if your keyboard is not working properly or the Standard PS/2 Keyboard driver is damaged or does not load properly. Recommendations: clean your computer Check sfc.exe /scannow and fix any errors if there are some turn off the computer and then turn it on again (better if you do not use restart) if nothing changed and all was well, open Device Manager and uninstall the Standard PS/2 Keyboard driver and restart your computer. This driver will be reinstalled. If that doesn't work, check that all BIOS settings are correct, and restore the original settings if necessary. If that doesn't help, it's more complicated and it would be wise to try to see if a desktop keyboard thing works. If that still doesn't work, there is a problem with the driver or Windows is damaged. It is recommended that you reinstall Windows. Before scanning sfc.exe /scannow is recommended to delite all content of file %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log After scanning has been finished, You can get log on desktop using this script/command/.bat file Code: @echo off findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt Start notepad "%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt" exit Run it as administrator.
verify if all driver working correctly , fn key requiere driver for keyboard , if fn key with old windows 10 version , upgrade driver if possible or switch to ltsc or ltsb
Ok, thank you everybody. I have tested my keyboard by a software, it showed hardware failure. Fn key along with F3, F5, F6, F7, F9, F10, F11 keys are not working. All other keys are functioning normally. I've to go for change this keyboard.
Maybe you want to talk a little more about your computer. I ask this in order I do not want to believe that there is any hardware failure. Besides, if it is, then what is the real problem. Maybe simply CMOS battery is old, maybe BIOS settings are changed, there may be many very simple things that may cause this problem. With hardware usually happens nothing if You yourself havent broke something.
Once I had the same problem. When I clean installed Windows 10 on my laptop and the fn key stopped working. The solution is to reinstall the keyboard driver from CD/DVD which came with your laptop or if it's available online. But I had to revert back to windows 7 because the driver CD which I had only supports windows 7 and I can't found any driver on my laptop company website. After clean installing Windows 7 and it's drivers from CD the fn key started working properly. So try to find the keyboard driver on your company website which support windows 10 or unfortunately you have to reinstall the windows with which your laptop came to make it work again
It is SAMSUNG which is discontinued and it is about 10 years old laptop and it even works properly till date without any problem
There should be no problem, because then it uses the standard Standard PS/2 Keyboard and it is available for Windows 10 as well, works perfectly. But I looked for this what You posted before repaired, even for this version and also for older then it, what You posted, have drivers for Windows 10. So I think, there should be no problems with keyboards, but only may happen, that some very specific function keys will not work, ie these what are not common, but have been added by manufacturer. All common function keys must work as should.
