So I first posted in the Embedded section about a Windows Update error I was getting. I followed the advice I got, downloaded kb5008277, kb5014747 and kb5014027 and stuck them into the image (in addition to the slew of updates and hotfixes that were already included) using ICE and then used ICE to build a new bootable drive and install from it. After the reinstall, Windows Update was still throwing the same error.. But I also realized I can't even connect to the internet. WIFI is nowhere to be found, troubleshooting says that Windows "couldn't find the network card driver," and even plugging the ethernet cable doesn't do anything. So I just wanna get this out of the way: does WES8 not have automatic driver installs? Meaning, I'll have to install every single driver for anything on my laptop to even work?
You have to install any missing driver, just like any other OS. Where's the surprise? At least you have to install the network driver(s), then possibly, many of the remaining missing drivers will come from WU.
you need add network card driver , use windows vista or windows 7 or windows 8.0 or windows 8.1 driver
Thanks folks, after installing the aforementioned three updates _online_ I was able to get the Internet as well as Windows Update working. I was probs sticking them in the wrong way when trying offline. Follow-up question: is it possible to install Powershell 5.1 or better yet Core 7? Seems like WES8 comes with WMF 3.0. WMF 4.0, 5.0 and 5.1 installers all fail: Also, has anyone been able to get the Store, winget and Windows Terminal working?
If you need to install bits that are specifically meant for win8 (windows media center, for example) you need to do that offline, after you unpack them and edit the update.mum to make it consider WES8 a good prerequisite.
