From what I can find online about this is to install the Windows Vista driver for it in compatibility mode and it works. The following is a quote from social.msnd.microsoft "the windows vista drivers (15.8.3.1504) DO work on win 8 dp. Just install using compatibility settings. I just did on my msi wind u100 netbook - full aero experience along with good performance on metro-style apps " hope it helps.

your cpu is not supported. It probably has no NX in the bios and so you are doomed. Buy a later CPU which supports it and you might go. Best is to to bring your ancient box to slumber's inc: :D

Laptops are far to limited for CPU Upgrades!!

That said, the OP should first all details about his laptop before he could expect some real help! Without the MDL Experts known what he's working with, there could be hardly any real help!

especially on older laptops, I was able to replace the cpu but on newer models, I never tried. 915gm tells me that it must be an older box. So I gave my recommendation to give it a try. If our friend has no skills to open the box, I gave the hint for slumber's inc ...
... or stick with XP or Vista

I know that the Windows 7 GMA 9xx drivers work in Windows 8, there have been a few posts in the forum in the past that say they work. I would give them a try and report back.

eeepc runs win8 with the GMA 9xx, but the resolution isnt able to be increased to win8's needs so its a little odd, but works. In the case of the eeepc 900HD driver disk, open the disc that came with the system, locate the drivers folder and do not run the setup, but instead run the install. Thats with the eeepc anyway

Ha! Windows 8 ONLY supports WDM driver model for display drivers, that intel, has refused to produce for the GMA 915 (even though its fully capable)..... The Intel GMA 915 only has an XPDM driver so your either stuck with the generic driver (only allows 1024x768)... or sorry but your out of luck... try windows 7 or xp... (although i fully support windows 8, its just not... best, for that display adapter...)
