    Hey :)
I downloaded a copy of GRTMPOEM_EN.iso..it said it is a MS OEM...I am assuming it is a generic version of an OEM....can I replace the files along with adding the $OEM$ folder and it will pre-activate XP? I have been searching through the forums trying to find a list of the required files and am not sure which is which so are these the required files that need replaced?

    DPCDLL.DL_
    OEMBIOS.BI_
    OEMBIOS.CA_
    OEMBIOS.DA_
    OEMBIOS.SI_
    OOBEINFO.IN_
    PIDGEN.DLL
    SETUPP.INI
    SETUPREG.HIV
    WINNT.SIF

I do understand that I may need to change the WINNT.SIF to fit my own needs correct?

I am also curious as to where I might find the wallpapers, icons, etc needed for the OEM, in my case HP.....so that the install looks authentic...

anything else I may have missed? any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks,
    John

    dobbelina,
thanks for the info...I am assuming that the oembios.* files are not service pack based...the iso file I downloaded has SP3....
    Thanks,
    John

    911medic,
Thanks for the info...I added the oembios.* files as you stated and everything seemed to work fine...I saw no sign of windows asking for any activation...one strange thing that did happen was at 39 mins a box popped up stating something about The Windows Setup Wizard and a next button...I have never seen this box before...is it suppose to do that? and is there anyway to get rid of it? Will let you know how things work out in the end...I am interested in learning about pre-installing programs, wallpapers, etc....
    Thanks,
    John

I have no idea what this is. I do know that with the .sif file I gave you, everything is manual entry except the serial.
If you downloaded the xp from a torrent, it may have additional programs you dont know about. What exactly is the popup??

911medic, dobbelina and anyone else who took the time to answer my mundane questions.....you guys rock!!!! :)

I dumped the GRTMPOEM_EN.iso because it was acting weird on install....got a clean copy of en_windows_xp_professional_with_service_pack_3_x86_cd_x14-80428.iso...checked all the CRC, SHA1 and MD to make sure it was genuine.....added the OEMBIOS.BI_, OEMBIOS.CA_, OEMBIOS.DA_ , OEMBIOS.SI_, SETUPP.INI and WINNT.SIF to the iso....burned to CD and installed without a problem......ran C:\windows\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a and it said windows was already activated......installed the Genuine Validation Control and ran MGADiag.exe......everything came out Genuine.....cool!!!!

now all I need to do is learn how to customize it and install programs and slipstream updates :)

Thanks for all your help...I am sure I will need lots more....
    Thanks Again,
    John

    Bump :p

Because of the recent project by @George King.....I searched for the OEM ISO's, especially this one: GRTMPOEM_EN.iso. I found it but the checksums are not the same....Can anyone confirm these ISO's if these are legit?

    Thx in advance

Btw, latest VMware has no issues running XP in general.
And VirtualBox has bug-fixed the crap out of their sw and is highly recommended as well.
Feel free to PM me or post in appropriate thread requests and questions.

    Hey @Sajjo

    I'm all set for now....
Using a older VMWare build because older system not supported anymore...

Virtualbox is great also...Installed XP in Virtualbox, then converted the VHD to VMDK using WinImage. Setup new XP VM in VMWare using identical settings, then loaded the converted VMDK with the created vmx file and it booted just fine :)

    Thx!
