[Guide] Adding Gui to Server Core - 1.21v

Yeah, I added all packages related to start and shell experience. I tried to re-add packages and now it only boots to black screen.

 

I successfully added GUI to 19042.746 ServerDatacenterACor, but it has some issues. Branding is broken and adding branding packages does not fix it. Otherwise everything is working fine, although the OS is pretty client-ish and not like real Server would be...

Nope, no any target editions. Only Datacenter on the image and thats it. Also I did find the problem on branding: for some reason some package installs Client branding and not Server. Manually copying Branding folder results on proper branding on Windows.

 

@xinso How did you get proper Server OOBE to work? I only get Client OOBE on 19042 Server.

 

The true goal is to have WindowsServer Core and to allow installing Win10 programs.
When we achieve this we are golden.
So where are we now? - 02.03.21

--- Last releases of ServerDataCenter2022 - includes GUI, but alot of programs dont work becouse of the version (server)
How can we bypass and change it , to all programs work on it?

 

19041.1 Server's Branding folder.

 

Tutorials on page 1 on this topic are a bit outdated, many packages have been changed. Maybe it is time to update the tutorials to 19041.1?

 

Windows 10 ServerRdsh might be a good start. Removing all appx and adding Server settings and features to it would make a Server-ish OS which still brands itself as a normal Win10.

 

Now that's sounds awesome, becouse when you run normal Win10-2022 you will get error when you install video card or driver that os is not supported. And yours idea fix it

Has anyone yet made lite Windows Server based on Server 2022 Core installation? That would be a new challenge...

 

LiteOS (assuming you're the same person creating the wonderful lite versions) - The Server Core w/Audio project is something I have hoped for since the earliest days of Hyper-V Core and the likes. However, I have not been able to get it to work on any system I've tried, from netbooks to desktops to weird Bay Trail tablets. The audio drivers for any onboard or external device I can find always show errors in device manager (whether signed or not - and Core doesn't seem to let you disable signature enforcement). Just wanted to say I hope this is something that can be improved on in time, as its a very cool option for an OS.

 

With the advent of UUPs isn't this going to be less cumbersome?
