Hardware acceleration in VMware

    In VMware Workstation, there is a function "Hardware acceleration for remote virtual machine".
    Edit -> Preferences -> Display -> Graphics -> Hardware acceleration for remote virtual machine

    What is this function and how do I use it?

    Seem that no one has ever noticed that option. (Including me).

    I've investigated a bit and I can explain why I didn't notice. It was introduced in the useless and buggy 16.2.x version, and obviously I use 16.1.2, 15.5.7, 12.5.9 or 10.0.7, depending on what I have to do.

    Sadly that 3D for remote machines option appeared in the same build that removed the option to share a machine.

    So the only possibility is that's has an effect when you use VMware 16.2.x to connect to a remote machine shared by VMware ESX (and maybe a remote machine shared by VMware workstation 16.1.x or earlier).
