Who is to say it was not placed out in the open for a reason, maybe all it did was collect information on certain activation by-passes, thus creating a bigger library the next time it goes into full deployment. One can never say that MS isnt devious themselves.
Its not showing up on windows update for me either but i have been installing win7 on my computers and then making sure they validate genuine by going to microsofts website to check genuine status and it actually downloads the KB971033 update while installing or running whatever it needs to run to check genuine status and for what its worth so far my 2 installs have both passed the online test
It can still be downloaded from the M$ update download sites. I read a report of some HP genuine machines being flagged as pirated. If true that is why it isn't showing at the moment. The OEMs aren't going to tolerate their machines being flagged as counterfeit. M$ can't afford to lose any of their business and they have choices now. A mass shift in the OEM market away from M$ would be the end - unlikely but becoming more of a possibility with tight budgets and cheap alternatives.
I agree with Rosco, why pay for OS when they can get a custom *NIX OS. MS better tread lightly here me thinks!
yea man.. i was thinking the same thing.. i have done a few clean installs in multiple fashion to see why i was no longer getting the WAT update .. it now makes sense .. i wonder what is up Microsoft's sleeve ..
I think that KB971033 still exists (at least as of system install on 16/3/10 1230 GMT). I unchecked and hid that update and it is still there in `restore hidden updates'
I tried `restore hidden updates' earlier (before I found it on their update site) but it says "You have not hidden any updates for your computer". Wierd. Maybe they're shifting focus to requiring validation for downloads rather than an outright attack. After all they have really backpedalled from the tough stance of the RTM Vista release where you were locked out - now you simply get nagged regularly.
i think what this thread is referring to are new/clean installs .. i.e. i did 2 clean installs this past week on my vmware .. and both times.. no KB971033 appeared .. i also did one last week on my host.. and also. .. KB971033 did not appear .. and no . .. i never did validation ..
No, I used a 3.47 gb win 7 ult 32+64 preactivated. One piece of advice sought: as of now, I have a preactivated version (a 3.47 gb iso image) on my desktop PC which was last installed on 16-3-10. I also have ultimate 32 and 64 bit version unotuched (GRMCU retail, 3 gb) referenced here in official windows repository. Had tried both sometime back with daz loader 1.6.9 and both worked. Somebody advised on this forum to stick to untouched, unactivated versions or do the preactivation myself. Doing preactivation on untouched version is way beyond my level of competence or confidence. In that case, what I want to know is will untouched (GRM...) 64 bit ult. +daz loader 1.6.9 (or say 1.7.7) work as before (install all w7 updates as desired). I am comfortable with 1.6.9 because that has worked for me before. More important: I want all w7 updates. If this works, then I will install the untouched version soon (on desktop and laptop) and be done with it. Finally, it seems you are implying that using an untouched version (GRMCU)+ loader will cause 971033 to not appear. If that be the case, that seems worthwhile.
