Hasn't anyone found the Gigabyte certificate that matches the Gigabyte 2.1 SLIC ? Gigabyte has released a lot of bios rev. with 2.1 SLIC tables in them.
I wasn't even aware gigabyte built PCs. I know they made motherboards and video cards and the like but didn't realize they branded their own PCs.
that'd be awesome if we had any gigabyte cert. Then i need to find a bios with a Gigabyte slic 2.1 for my Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P just to be on the safe side, in case microsft decides to check bios vendors... ) Already using a modded bios with Dell slic 2.1 )
for some yes, but few manufactures doesnt have backwards compatible 2.1 slic (like asus, acer, gateway....) that is using same cert.
ALL slics 2.1 ARE backward compatible. Some have to be used with new certificate only because they changed public key thus requiring a new certificate with matching public key.
ye ye they are backwards compatible per se, however having different public key it doesnt make them backwards compatible with old cert, does it? thus they are not backwards compatible with old cert and that is what i was trying to say, i wasnt claiming they are not compatible with old slic 2.0 and/or vista activation.
If MS decided to check the mfgr, it would invalidate your copy anyway because they (the OEM) would provide info on what models they sell to MS. Since Gigabyte only sells netbooks and notebooks any desktop motherboard would be invalidated pretty easily.
