On laptops, USB port power can be a concern, but usually not on desktops. I'm thinking that you might consider a new drive enclosure. It might be a hardware incompatibility with the USB interface inside the existing controller. :MJ
Right which is why it's weird it would work on laptop and not my desktop. I do remember when I first bought the drive and plugged it to my laptop the single dongle cable was enough to power it, these days it isn't need the 2 dongle mini-usb cable for it to function correctly. I did forget to mention that the other weird thing the drive does on the laptop is it becomes audibly annoying, like a full size mechanical again on laptop it's quiet as a whisper. I even had a powered usb2 hub and it was a no-go.
