hdd exchange with win8 on it.

    hi guys.
    i have a hdd that i took out of my old laptop with win8 on it.
    would my other laptop recognize win8 if i put it in?
    also would it be activated?

    No guaranteed answer is possible , few have succeeded swapping hard drive but that was desktop, only trial and error as of now.

    rrohela is correct. Windows 8 will recognize the new hardware and make the appropriate driver updates. I don't know if it will be activated or not, though if activation is hardware or BIOS based it may be deactivated. There are solutions to that though.

    If the new Laptop would be the same Brand, it may works without problems. May you'll need to re-activate via phoning to MS! Which wouldn't be a problem if the Product Key is a legal key!!

    I actually took my hard drive out of an ASUS G50vt and moved it to an ASUS G73jw. I did not lose activation, but thought I would. Was pleasantly surprised, however I ended up re-installing anyway because having all the junk drivers just didn't suit me. Was just easier to re-install but hey activation stayed and that was the question.
