Hi, I have an old 250GB Seagate HDD which is out of warranty. It works fine otherwise, will let me install windows (multiple times) but upon reboot, it may fail to boot. I suspect its MBR sector (Track Zero) is probably bad and hence it has problems detecting boot sector. Are there any modern tools to "shift" MBR to another sector ? or Will it work fine on a GPT partition system ? What programs you recommend to scan it for any bad sectors and mark them "out" and be able to use this drive. Obviously I won't use this drive for regular OS, but its good asset to try around new OS / Beta OS installs. Thanks alot...
Thanks John, I already scanned it with Seatools latest version and it scanned clean with no errors. Looks like some SMART or other error on the drive which "should" be skipped by some software. Will give it a go with Hiren's tools
