help choosing free antivirus

    Hi, need some help in choosing a free antivirus for an xp machine 896mb ram. I installed avast 2014 but the system performed extremely slow. I am now installing bitdefender. So I thought I would ask what free antivirus would you all recommend.

    Thanks. I just installed BitDefender and it too has the system running very sluggish I will try MSE.

    And try Kingsoft Antivirus (Ceetah)

    free AVG is all I used for a free based AV for years. Although I've seen one person say it slows their system, I've never experienced it personally

    i enjoy using Comodo Internet Security Premium ( its free with alot of the features that most paid ones have.)

    OP's machine could use more ram for today's AV. And if the CPU is single core, that's a real AV performance throttler.

    I for one just use avast free anti virus have done for a good few years but to be honest I don't know why this thread was started a search on the forum would have shown we have had this discussion before and even before that o_O
