I did today an update from 8 Core to 8.1. I couldn't update through Store because there is no Windows 8.1 Update there. So, I downloaded 8.1 DVD ISO and put on stick. Then run setup.exe and it went well without any error. After restart I got this screen: i.imgur.com/rYEZXN8.png Everything else works, just some options in Control Panel are messed. I tried to do a refresh, keeping settings and data, then put USB and it restarted telling that there is nothing to do. I can restore back to 8, but I would like to fix this if possible. Please help. Thanks in advance.
Looks interesting . Did you update the graphics drivers to fit Win 8.1? What is output for (in admin command prompt): Code: cscript slmgr.vbs /dlv
Thanks for fast reply. When I run cscript I get Windows(R) Operating System VOLUME_KMSCLIENT channel License Status: Licensed. And a lot of IDs. Ok, what maybe I have messed up: first I thought it was driver problem. Laptop is Asus with Pentium 2020m and Intel HD Graphics, but in Device Manager there is Intel HD Graphics. I deleted it because I had black screen just after update and searched that this could be a problem. But problem was license and I deleted WAT folder in C:/ then it is working. But left me Control Panel in that state. Also I found a new problem: when I open Command Prompt, text is so tiny. I tried to zoom it with touchpad or unzoom but nothing happens. I will check official VGA drivers on Asus page. EDIT: Laptop is X501A
OK the Volume license explains why Upgrade wasn't offered via store . Rest sounds like you definitely messed your system. Would recommend a fresh install with the Win 8.1 media .
