I have done the bios mod, slic & certificate on some machines I built but now I want to try this on a Dell computer. Dell Inspiron 570 Using SLIC ToolKit V3.2 I get Version 2.1 XDS: DELL WN09 PubKey: DELL WN09 RSDT: DELL WN09 MAKER: Dell WN09 Vender: Dell Inc. Version: A05 Date: 12/20/2010 Size: 1024K Type: AMI BIOS /ACPI 2.0 PKey: Read OK! [6RBBT-F8VPQ-QCPVQ-KHRB8-*****] It has Windows 7 Home Premium edition on it now. I want to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional or Windows 7 Ultimate. Can I just slip a certificate into the new version of Windows 7 I install? Will any certificate do or do I need one that matches the OEM SLIC that is on the computer? Or do I need to mod the BIOS to another SLIC with matching certificate like I have done on machines I have built. I searched the forums and haven't found the answer. :-( If someone could please point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance
So I can just add the Dell certificate (DELL-DELL-2.0.XRM-MS) into Windows 7 Ultimate and it should work with the SLIC in the stock BIOS. Awesome. Thank you very much. I'll let you know how it turns out.
@ Smokin, you could also have just used slic dump toolkit to extract and backup your dell certificate
You can also just leave the existing Win 7 Home Premium as is and just do a "Windows Anytime Upgrade" and just use the Dell Windows 7 SLP key for Professional or Ultimate.
Ok interesting. I did install Win 7 Ultimate, added certificate and got good product key on the second one I tried. I ran Windows update, hid KB971033 and I'm still genuine. I didn't see KB2534510 One question. Should I avoid and hide KB971033 & KB2534510 updates or should it pass with flying colors? I'm worried about the product keys getting black listed or something. Does the BIOS mod keep Windows from checking online?
This BIOS method is more awesome than I thought. BIOS Mod is the Bomb! Thanks everyone for all the great info and help I've received over the years. Thank you thank you thank you.
