Dell Optiplex GX620, MB chipset is Intel GM945, should support 800Mhz core2duo CPU. however, Dell just don't want add some CPU micro code into BIOS. Can any one do this? so that I can upgrade CPU from current PD945 to core2duo.

    thanks a lot.

I would be also interested in this.

Newest bios for GX620 can be found from here:

Why would Dell bother to touch BIOS for a machine that is considered long dead?

I think I read the discussion elsewhere on the subject & it is PHYSICAL limitation (and not only microcode)

    So not possible

I agree, it is an old horse which, to Dell, is long dead. I have a few. They are pretty robust. But, I do not bother to mess with changing the CPU in the ones I have. I have both HT and Dual Core processors in them. They work fine that way. So I have to agree on this one.

But, if you care, there are other forums devoted to the sort of BIOS mod you seek. So go and search for a better venue.

FYI: In general, used Dells that support the processor you seek can typically be bought for just about as cheap as the subject version. That is, at least, for my part of the world.

    Good luck.
