I've clean installed and registered Windows 8.1 Pro 'With Update', and it logs into the Desktop automatically. If I run "netplwiz" my "Users must enter a user name and password to use this comptuer." check box is checked... As well all my registry entries under:

    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI
...seem to be in order for the system requiring a password to be entered before the system loads the start screen or desktop but I'm directly in the desktop whether I cold boot or reboot.

    Please advise...

Normally this happens in case no password is set :g:.

Thankyou s1ave77, you nailed it! I've never gone through a manual installation of Windows 8.x where it didn't prompt me for a password for the account -- this was a first and totally escaped my notice. You sir are a credit to the forums, but then I guess you know that!
