Help! Windows 8 rtm crashing-UNSOLVED! I have come here for some advice and help because I am at my wits end now and absolutely frustrated. I installed Windows 8 Pro RTM without a problem. However all my problems began once I started to install software on the OS. First I began to install the lastest java 7 sdk and Windows 8 Pro immediately crashed during the java installation with BSOD message (irql_not_less_or_equal) - WTF is going on here. I never had a problem at all using Win 8 release preview. I have Acer Aspire One Netbook - AO532h -Intel Atom. Okay so I thought it might be the Windows 8 Pro OS, so I downloaded Enterprise Version and I am having the exact same issues during the installation of software. None of these softwares are outdated all are up to date versions. It might either an OS Bug or hardware related - I just don't know. Like I said before they all worked on the Release Preview Edition without any problems. Any advice here guys as to what could be really causing the problem? P.S. Windows 8 installed all the drivers for my netbook I checked device manager just to be sure but is still crashing when I install some software. NEW UPDATE: The problem still remains it seems that Windows 8 RTM is full of bugs and does not work well with all computers. Microsoft seems to have put out here the worst RTM ever. At this stage of development of the OS all these issues with different types of hardware should have been fixed. WOW! What a total mess we have here!
You touched on it. irql_not_less_or_equal is a KERNEL level Stop error message probably caused by an incompatibility between the OS and the HW. If you keep using Win8, I guarantee you will probably have more Stop error messages.
It's most likely a driver issue, so make sure you've got the latest drivers installed for your hardware.
Yes Java jdk first caused the irql error to show up. I want to know why the rtm is causung so much problems and the release preview didn't cause any problems? I am now back to using Windows 7 on my Acer Netbook.
No the JDK would not cause the KERNEL level Stop error message. If you remember your NT architecture, the sdk can't go below ring1, irql_not_less_or_equal is a ring0 problem.
report the crashlogs to microsoft via windowserrorreporting (wer, drwatson and so on), and maybe some solution will eventually even popup if this would be some frequent crash or major trouble for a lot of users.
I did send a crash report to MS thanks everyone for their advice. I will keep you guys informed on my progress during the next few days or weeks. See update above!
