Hi, I installed XP on a ML3706 Notebook and am having a hard time knowing what drivers to install. Usually I have no problem installing drivers.

I am pretty much needing network connectivity and audio working which it is not right now. It was a clean install and everything works fine except these problems

Any help would be super appreciated:)

    Thanks

i would just use the dvd's that came with the machine also in vista you sometimes need to go into network and audio setting and select to show on taskbar. If you really want to install XP then make up a gateway OEM cd forget preativated garbage i,e hacks they never last.

You guys are right about preactivated install disc's. I just needed a copy of xp that people might need that had no recovery disc if thier computer needed to re-install. I've not had any problems with that XP until now. I think I'll just put her vista back on since it might already have some drivers with it and since I gave her extra 512 ram. Wierd, her 512 ram actually shows up as 448mb and I did memory diagnostic and everything was fine. I really want to just get an OS rolling and be done with this. Thanks 911medic for the drivers. I will try those suggestions you guys all gave me and get back to explain the outcome:)

The memory issue is likely the video using system memory..

lol...I go to try to help her again since I've only spent a couple minutes on her computer and she hands me 20 bucks and said thanks for the ram and that her daughter had fixed it. We'll see how long til she comes back since I have no idea if her daughter reinstalled vista or what or got someone else to fix it...lol

Now I'm going to go get some beer and think about whether or not I should help anyone again...lol

Thanks for your help guys and I'd buy you a beer if that were possible

What an amazingly awesome and helpful site with it's participants:cool:

OK, for the moment been the got the tee shirt believe me they will be back. You wouldn't believe the amount of computers i have built over the years for friends but not one realised they had to buy the windows say XP OS system ok so you do your bit install VLK version , works great for years now my :(computer ain't working rite into a mine field go back if possible use oem bios files if string is in dmi area if not end up using HP DMI boot CD Credits and Thank you to Suicide Solution.. and 911Medic. and use my unattended multi oem cd with drivers. Job done but no Money:p

It was even worst when i helped out in computer shop building machines the amount of peeps that would come in wanting upgrades ec.t and didn't have windows licence they just couldn't get it if it wasn't an OEM slp mahine then they would nee to buy OS.

If a company comes in to sort some ones machine if there is recovery partition or restore disks they just do that get machine up and running as it was when first used, they don't spend half a day backing up there document and files e.c.t as far as they are concerned that is not there problem.

So i wish you luck timesurfer but some times it ain't worth the hassle.

If that is the case couldn't you just update the bios on the video card to fix that. I have an nvidia geforce 9800 GTX+ that used to eat up something like 600 MB of ram that my OS and Bios cannot see at all except for "Appropriated" but a bios flash update to that card and I recovered that memory that I can now use.
