hi, I'm a true novice, it's taken me 20 minutes just to work out how to post a question on this forum! and I've no idea if I'm even posting in the correct section!!!!

    anyway, I have a
    Compaq Mini 110c-1030SS Pc laptop

and I'm really struggling! Apparently the 'line in' and 'line out' are the same jack hole.

what I'm trying to do is connect my lappy to my mixer so I can record a set but there appears to be no signal coming to my lappy and no apparent way for me to change any settings in the sounds device manager!

please can someone talk me through where I am going wrong? this is so frustrating as I want to get on and have a mix!

    Thanks in advance x

First of all, I hardly believe that line out and line is the same jack hole... But, if it is then just download audio switching utility from your computer manufacturers site. :) if not works check laptop user manual, there should be written where which jack is and how to switch them.

    Still Struggling

From User Manual: Page 12 (which is page 22 of 155) and component 6

    (6) Audio-out (headphone) jack/Audio-in (microphone)

    jack
Produces sound when connected to optional powered

stereo speakers, headphones, earbuds, a headset, or
television audio. Also connects an optional headset
    microphone.

WARNING! To reduce the risk of personal injury,
adjust the volume before putting on headphones,
earbuds, or a headset. For additional safety
information, refer to the Regulatory, Safety and
    Environmental Notices.

NOTE: When an audio component is connected to
the jack, the device speakers are disabled.

"The audio component cable must have a 4-conductor

    connector."

Can anyone explain what one of these is please? And what I need to do next?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for your time

Thanks so much for looking into it for me. Apparently this laptop is PANTS for Dj's wanting to record music.

The only thing I can do really is get a different laptop!

If anyone else comes across this page looking for an answer to the same problem......then get another lappy...sorry! :(

another suggestion would be to get USB sound card :) it costs ~2-3$ with free shipping on ebay. :)

Yes I did try that too. No luck though!
