I have OCed my CORE I7 920 2.66GHz to 3.6GHz, but Windows 7 show that my OC run at 2.79GHz, Why is that? in the BIOS and in OCCT 3 it recognize the correct speed - 3.6Ghz.. so how do I make window 7 to recognize the real speed (3.6) of my Processor?
Is a tecnology in bios. For economy when your processor is in idle. Called in bios something whit C1E or SpeedStep
If you enable C1E or EIST, the processor will not always run at max multiplier speed if it isn't require. It will run at mininal multiplier which is x14, and when required it will run at default x20 to Overclocked x21(Intel introduced this overclock mode for i7, the mode called Turbo Mode) I assume you use x18 as its multiplier. 200*14 = 2.8GHz =~2.79Ghz 200*18 = 3.6Ghz and if needed i7 will run at 200*21 = 4.2GHz (Turbo Mode enabled) Edit: Sorry for some mistake.
So does it recommended to disable C1E or EIST? and how do I do that? When playing heavy games like crysis, will it run on 4.2ghz? if so, when I minimize the game, windows still show 2.79Ghz to me.. ? why is that? how to enable Turbo Mode?
You should not disable any power-saving features - doing so is only wasteful. And yes, when your CPU is under load it will upclock itself to full speed.
