    Not that I would attempt to use the hosts file mod over the simple registry key, but doesn't Microsoft whitelist their own websites? Or is that only in the firewall? Has anyone actually tested this with wireshark or similar?

    Isn't that pretty normal? Malware likes to modify the hosts file.
