How activate Windows 8.1 Pro clean install with an upgrade key?

    Hi, I've been formatted my PC with Windows 8.1 Pro, when I want to put my legit serial upgrade with slmgr, it's report that:

    The software licenses service reports that serial key only is valid for upgrade purposes, not in clean installs

    Is there some form to bypass this? Thanks! :worthy:

    But with it, i get with KMS, I only want to activate with my retail key. Is it possible?

    Maybe you try the following:

    • boot from an Windows 8 Pro DVD or USB Stick just to get the first UI screen up and running
    • change the DVD or USB Stick and carry on with the Setup
    That worked for me some time ago!!

    Also you may use the Generic Product Key for Install ony and than change to your legit Key.

    Open REGEDIT.
    Adjust following key: MediaBootInstall from "1" to "0"
    in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE/


    Open CMD as admin.
    slmgr /rearm


    Reboot computer.


    Run the Activate Windows utility, type in your product key and activate windows.
