What a nice collection of great visual pleasures! But I guess the term 'cool' can be applied to the bells and whistles. It's completely a matter of personal aestethics, IMHO. The 'cool' Linux is the combination of highly optimized kernel, modest but adequate set of software tools and refined interfaces and workflows for all real applications of that particluar machine (maybe equipped with Bushido-driven, samurai-like administrator running this computer like a katana sword), isn't it? How about sharing the experience these types of 'cool' Linux configs? For me the humble Mac user this will like a true battle of champions I think... P.S. Do not touch it too seriously. The collection of visual elements in this thread are beautiful, I'm sure. Best regards!
Point taken (not too seriously, mind you ) The point is really customization to overcome the "difficulties" that many windows users have when migrating to Linux... and not about "hacking" the system with Romeo-type kernels etc. The pics are just some eye-candy, not the basis of what it's about - eg I'm using BURG ovelaying Grub for visual effect as well - that too me is kinda "cool" Also WPS (Kingsoft) Office and Evolution/Kmail - I find these more appealing than the standard set-up.
Unless you're / is encrypted, there's no real point in a separate /boot anyways. SSDs benefit from some unpartitioned space btw.
