i've searched on google for some sort of guide but they all say the same thing, backup the userdata folder in appdata>local>google yet this doesn't work 100%, it only restored browser settings and bookmarks, extensions aren't restored, anyone know of a full backup and restore method?
i already tried that, it fails to restore my extensions, chrome deletes the extensions when i open it up.
Installed extensions are/should be stored at: Code: %localappdata%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions\ Edit: I've no idea exactly what is backed up if/when you're signed into Google, but you don't have a situation where Chrome is overwriting your profile by restoring from a different profile (if you're signed in)?
You sign into google, and all your settings are stored. When you install a new OS, and install Chrome simply sign in and all will be as it was.
Yes, alright, but extension's settings are not backed up. Except if the extension supports settings backup, just like uBlock Origin for instance.
Ublock origins settings can be exported, most others are very simple, don't need much to reconfigure!
I meant the other apps that don't have settings backups built in are mostly just simple extensions they don't have much to configure anyway !
switched over to firefox again, chrome sucks, the store is about as restrictive as the windows store. at least with firefox you can fully backup a profile with everything. was getting sick of the ie and it's sluggishness on some sites like wix...thought i could stick with it but it got too annoying. why do most of the browsers suck so much? just thought, gonna try chromium and see if it's any better than google chrome.
switched to chromium now, can manually install extensions without them being disabled on re-launch. things i like about chrome; higher html5 score than ff can set default zoom level for ALL sites much lower memory usage than ff only thing missing is a sidebar but i found bookmarks manager which is good enough.
You can use Chrome Portable, then all settings should be stored within and you copy it as many times as you want.
probably try chrome portable instead, get troubles with ff and youtube, can't skip ahead in videos without it saying playback error, works fine on chrome, ie, edge though.
been using chromium for a few days now, quite pleased with it, no issues with extensions like with chrome. installed ublock + umatrix
